Accident in Cape Breton - two weeks ago

Today as I was reading about Billy Lane and his accident ..it came to me that we had a very serious accident in our own back yard on Sunday, August 27th. at the Englishtown Ferry crossing in Cape Breton. I should have made our members aware of this and also re-inforce the issue that we can never never be too careful when it comes to cages.and their complete discern for our safety .. Robert Gwynn of Cape North N.S. ( riding a Harley FLHTC ..Kal George’s old bike) and his son ( on a separate bike) had pulled out to pass a car that had just got off the ferry. Meanwhile this car decided to pull out and pass the car in front of him and didn’t see Robert passing him.. Passing is a common factor for all disembarking vehicles from the ferry because of the 1 mile streight piece of road that lies ahead before entering the winding Cabot Trail. Anyway.. to make along story short..while he was passing this car it pulled out and hit Robert ..forcing Robert off the road and onto the shoreline and the rocks , totaling his bike as well as his body. This not something a son should witness but he seen it happen as he was riding behind him… He has been in a coma in Hfx hospital ever since ( 2 wks today) with extensive injuries to his head..eyes..teeth.. legs..arms..and back and he also took a stroke while in hospital causing parlization to his right side and speech. Doctors say if he wakes up , He will be in a wheelchair or possibly a nursing home…This is definately not how this man should end up..He is one of the hardest working men I have ever known.. a small business owner ( dozer / backhoe / truck ) and it seems during this last year that if it wasn’t for bad luck he’d have no luck at all .. He lost his home in Febuary do to an electrical problem and prior to that lost part of his foot due to debetes but continued to work as best he could and had one hell of a positive attitude to go with it. His motto was..” if you want to eat you have to work…and I want to eat “.. His family remains in Hfx at his beside waiting anxiously for him to wake up..my thoughts and prayers go out to them at this stressful time in their lives…
